The proposals
The site
The Trustees for the former Lilley and Stone School have brought Nottingham-based developer Bildurn on board to redevelop the site off London Road, Newark. The property has been unused and derelict for many years. The proposed scheme will help to restore a historic site and maximise previously developed land in the heart of the town. We are also proposing to retain Shalem Lodge and the former caretaker’s cottage.
In addition to providing new homes, the proposals will deliver substantial funding towards local education and sports facilities, helping to support health and wellbeing.
The site is in a sustainable location, benefitting from strong public transport links and a wide range of amenities within walking distance, including schools, healthcare facilities, supermarkets, and retail.

History of the site
Historically the site has been used as a school; the Lilley and Stone School which closed in 1997 and later The Newark High School, until its closure in 2008. The site was then the sixth form campus for the Newark Academy until 2016. It has been derelict in recent years and has recently experienced a great deal of anti-social behaviour. The restoration of the listed buildings and redevelopment of the site will help to alleviate these issues.

Local sports provision
As part of the development, Bildurn is proposing to deliver substantial funding towards local sports facilities, helping to support health and wellbeing.

Sustainability
The site is in a sustainable location, benefitting from strong public transport links and a wide range of amenities within walking distance, including schools, healthcare facilities, supermarkets, and retail.

The proposals
The plans include the redevelopment of the two listed buildings on the site and a residential development to the rear of the former school.
This development will maximise previously developed land in the heart of Newark and help to secure a legacy for the old school, which has been the subject of numerous anti-social behaviour incidents over recent years.
In addition to providing much-needed new homes, the proposals will deliver substantial funding for local sports facilities and profits that the Trustees receive from the site’s development will be re-invested into young people’s education in Newark.
